There are two architectures that have been proposed for providing quality of service in the Internet- integrated
services (Intserv) and differentiated services (Diffserv) architecture. Intserv is
a framwork developed within the IETF to provide individualized QoS guarantees to individual application sessions. The
goal of Diffserv is to provide the ability to handle different classes of traffic in differnet ways within the Internet.
Although neither Interserv nor Diffserv have taken off and found widespread adoption, they represent the IEFT's current standards
for providing quality of service guarantees. Incorporating the principles and mechanisms.
